Antioch Coastal Cleanup Committee Seeks Volunteers

California Coastal Cleanup Day has been hailed by the Guinness Book of World Records as "the largest garbage collection" (1993). Since the program started in 1985, over 800,000 Californians have removed more than 13 million pounds of debris from our state's shorelines and coast.

“For the Keep Antioch Beautiful Cleanup in April of this year, there were over 1,000 volunteers”, said City Council Member and Coastal Cleanup Volunteer, Martha Parsons. “We’re building on the community spirit that made that cleanup event such a success, and we are putting out the call to our community to help with Antioch’s annual coastal event”.

Last year in the city of Antioch, over 250 volunteers showed up to help clean riverfront areas from the Antioch Marina to Fulton Shipyard Road. This year’s event will be held on September 25th, from 9 AM to noon, and the community-based committee is looking for volunteers to help with the effort. Be a part of the largest volunteer day on the planet! Coastal Cleanup Day involves individuals, schools, community and company volunteer groups.

There are two sites to check in the day of the event, the overflow parking lot on L Street & 2nd Street, or at Fulton Shipyard Road (by the Red Caboose Restaurant). The cleanup will be followed by a free volunteer lunch on 1st Street.
