Animal Services is dedicated to promoting animal welfare and public awareness which results in humans and animals living together in harmony.

The Antioch Animal Services Center is responsible for the enforcement of Local and State Laws relating to the care, control, and protection of animals and of our citizens.  Officers' responsibilities include picking up and confining stray, sick, injured, vicious and dead animals; issuance of dog licenses; patrolling the City streets; control of animal nuisance problems and animal euthanasia.  The Animal Shelter also provides adoption, volunteer, and education programs.

HOLIDAY CLOSURE REMINDER

Antioch Animal Services will be closed to the public on Monday, September 1, 2014 and Tuesday, September 2, 2014 in observation of Labor Day and our regularly scheduled closure day. We will re-open again on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at 10:00am.

In the event of an animal emergency, please call the Antioch Police Department at (925) 778-2441.

Although we are closed to the public, rest assured that the animals at the Shelter are still being well taken care of as Animal Care Attendants and Volunteers are working through the holiday to clean, feed and water the animals. As well, an Animal Control Officer is on stand-by 24 hours a day to handle any emergency animal calls in the field.

Antioch Animal Services has temporarily discontinued fees for owner surrendered cats

This means that if you are an Antioch Resident and you wish to relinquish your pet cat to the Animal Shelter, you can now do so for free. As always, stray and abandoned cats within Antioch may also continue to be dropped off at the Animal Shelter for free.

Announcement:

The City of Antioch is happy to announce the hiring of a Rescue Coordinator at the Antioch Animal Shelter. Revenues received from the Maddie’s Fund Grant will be used to pay for this position in full. This employee will work 30 hours per week. The primary duties of the position will be to coordinate with rescues and other organizations throughout the greater bay area in an effort to increase the shelter’s adoption rate as well as the number of animals accepted by rescues. Furthermore, this position will be responsible for developing and formalizing an Animal Fostering Program. It is anticipated these efforts will help reduce the percentage of animals euthanized at the shelter.
