Animal Services is dedicated to promoting animal welfare and public awareness which results in humans and animals living together in harmony.

The Antioch Animal Services Center is responsible for the enforcement of Local and State Laws relating to the care, control, and protection of animals and of our citizens.  Officers' responsibilities include picking up and confining stray, sick, injured, vicious and dead animals; issuance of dog licenses; patrolling the City streets; control of animal nuisance problems and animal euthanasia.  The Animal Shelter also provides adoption, volunteer, and education programs.

HOLIDAY CLOSURE REMINDER:

Antioch Animal Services will be closed to the public on Friday, July 3, 2015 and Saturday, July 4, 2015 in observation of Independence Day. We will re-open again to the public on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at 10:00am.

In the event of an animal emergency, please call the Antioch Police Department at (925) 778-2441.

Although we are closed to the public, rest assured that the animals at the Shelter are still being well taken care of as Animal Care Attendants and Volunteers are working through the holiday to clean, feed and water the animals. As well, an Animal Control Officer is on stand-by 24 hours a day to handle any emergency animal calls in the field.

Please remember to keep your pets cool and comfortable with plenty of water. It’s a good idea to leave pets at home during the fireworks festivities with a TV or radio on as background noise to distract them. Do not leave your dog tied in the backyard as they may become frightened and entangled in their rope or chain and possibly suffer injuries. Also, be sure that your pet has an identification tag on with your current contact information in case it escapes from your property. If your pet does go missing, please come into the Antioch Animal Shelter on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at 10:00AM and file a missing pet report.

Thank you and have a safe Holiday!
